Trap Neuter Return
We love cats and we want to do all we can to help them have a better quality of life. We aim to catch wild and stray cats in Tenerife on an ongoing basis. We do this by T.N.R. (Trap, Neuter, Return). All the traps we use are humane. We take the cats to the vets to be neutered and then return them when they have recovered. The vet takes the tip of their left ear off so we know which cats have been sterilized and don’t catch them again.
Quite often we find tame cats, which are most likely abandoned pets. We also take them for neutering and try and re home them, but this is becoming more and more difficult as there are not enough people wanting to adopt a cat. Neutering cats keeps the population down, which means less suffering and a better quality of life for the cats that are already here.
Since we have been having colonies of cats neutered, the cats have become more accepted by people, especially hotel, restaurant and business owners, who have been known to poison them. Cats keep the numbers of mice and rats down, so as long as the cats are neutered and not breeding, most businesses are happy to let the cats stay.
We also aim to help encourage people to have their pets neutered and work hard to achieve this wherever we can. Please have a look through the site for much more information about how we can help you to help your cat, or how you can help us help the stray and abandoned cats of Tenerife.
